I was just wondering if it's normally better to evolve a Pokemon earlier than later. For example, say I have a level 99 Magikarp, and let it evolve at level 100 to Gyrados. Would the stats be much lower than a normal, level 100 Gyrados that evolved at level 20, like it normally should? Or would they be the same?

If you evolve later, chances are a Move a Pokémon learns at say level 57 will learn it quicker than if you evolved the Pokémon at level 34. The stats will be boosted to what they would normally be at level 100.

Yeah it doesn't matter at all for stats, unless you just use millions of Rare Candies. People wait usually for the reason above: how a pre-evolved Pokemon usually learns moves earlier. For example, Infernape learns Flare Blitz at Level 68, but Monferno learns it at Level 56.

Its stats will change to be what a Gyarados at level 100 should have depending on the evs.
