Help catching Rotom

I've been trying to catch rotom for over an hour now and can't seem to find it can someone tell me how to find it I've been looking in the lost hotel waiting for trash cans to shake. Do i need to get the national pokedex first?

You can only get them on Tuesdays. If you don't get it, soft reset and try again. If you don't reset or save after checking the thrash cans, you can no longer find Rotom in them today and need to wait a week to try again. (unless you mess with your DS's clock settings - though clock based events in game will be locked for 24 hours so you'd still need to wait until tomorrow)
