Welcome! I'm fairly new as well, but I've found using the trade station and browsing "active trades" as well as wishlists has gotten me some progress.

Well I haven't got no one to trade with me yet but I'm patient, I had black version when it came out and I SOLD it back to the store (vicitinii and all the rares from in game) cuz I thought okay maybe no more events, but when they did the lucario event I got a new copy AGAIN. I plan on keeping it this time since I got more out of it the 2nd time around.
