its great as a pokemon

Well, it depends on the usage you tend to apply it to, but I guess Hitmonlee is better because of its simple design. To me, at least.

I've always liked/chosen Hitmonlee. I just like his looks better, and I love the move rolling kick!

ok so here is the info i got
Hitmontop is the only pokemon to learn triple kick
hitmonchan is a fighting type which i hate because using your feet works in battles
hitmonlee is an awesome, simple designed pokemon
hitmonlee (if you wanted to) it would be easy to make a paper macshe costume

"Better" is a subjective term. One is certainly 'better' than the other in many different aspects. The number of variables is too high; especially when taking human opinion into consideration.
In terms of design as subject to my own opinion: Hitmonchan
Based on Attack and Special Attack statistics: Hitmonchan
Based on Defense and Special Defense statistics: Hitmonlee
We could go back and forth here.
