Most likely to accommodate the changing camera angles. HGSS didn't have as many varying overworld perspectives as BWBW2 does. The sprite distortion would be pretty difficult to execute smoothly.
yeah I used to like my little pokemon following me everywhere, but I see exflar's point there isn't really anyway they could focus the all the camera angles properly although they could have had the pokemon in different places other than the bridges and places with all the camera angle changes. or at least could give you like a special park for you and your pokemon like in diamond, platinam and pearl there is that big park meadow place so that you can walk with your pokemon

I miss being able to walk with your pokemon, it sucks.

Dude, the park was one reason I have Platinum. I hope they bring it back.
