I ended up trading it for a shiny honedge which has 5 IVs so it was worth... still miss it sometimes

...Shiny Mesprit in Diamond :P I'd played Ruby 3 times through before that and had never encountered a shiny, kind of a sad panda about my luck, but I guess it was worth the wait
(By the way, does anyone know if it stays shiny after it flees and roams? I would assume so, but I didn't have the guts to try it on my own game and just threw my Master Ball.)

A shiny golbat in heartgold. What is super cool about it, i defeated it three time. I assume I a glitch; the fourth time I caught him.
In pokemon Y i found a shiny meinfoo. So far in X haven't caught one, but Y is my main game as get more playing time

Yes it does. You'll encounter the exact same Mespirt every time. It's nature, IVs etc are all determined when you encounter it for the first time, and so is whether it will be shiny or not. This goes for all roaming pokemon.
