OK... Somehow after watching the video and seeing it move, the Flying theory looks unlikely... I'm thinking Steel because of the name...
      (Eeveelution 9: Dragon, please Nintendo!)

EDIT: There's a theory that a new type will be used for this one either 'Magic' or 'Illusion' type.

EDIT 2: Ignore my ramblings about the Steel, I think I have the answer! http://www.pokemon.com/pokemonxy/en-us/ After scrolling past Sylveon's publicity photos, you'll see a chart of all 8 Eeveelutions surrounding Eevee. Each of them are matched to the one they are weak to. Eg: Vaporeon > Leafeon, Flareon < Glaceon, Espeon > Umbreon and finally Jolteon < Sylveon. So now that my Steel type ramblings are out of the way, this baby is definitely a Flying type.

Hmm however that would leave Jolteon with 2 strengths and no weaknesses with in the Eevee family. Not saying your wrong but something to consider and is there another new one to come? Also the Magic/Illusion type would make sense to be strong against Dark which would give Umbreon a weakness in the Family.

Edit: Saw this and the same point you had on tumblr and made me think that we were reading to much into it and it was just the order in which the pokemon were released eg Gen 1 across the top then under them Gen 2 opposite each other, same with Gen 4 under them and then finally Gen 6

I like the observation in your second edit. If that were true, the only possible type for it would be Flying, but I think that is just a coincidence. The top 3 are the originals, the 2 on the sides of Eevee and from Gen 2, Bottom Left and Bottom Right are Gen 4, and the Sylveon from Gen 6 is there.

I really think it must be a Steel-Type. It doesn't appear like it, but the names of the eeveelutions always give away it's type. Vapor, Jolt, Flar(e), ESP, Umbr(a), Leaf, Glac(e), and now Sylv(er). I really do think this will have to be a Steel-Type solely based on it's name, just as all the other eeveelutions had names matching their types.

I won't vehemently insist there aren't any new types since I have no proof... But I doubt it. Strongly. And of there are, Magic/Illusion just sounds.... Way too confusing. Considering we have names like Magic Guard and Illusion ability and whatnot, move types would change again and at this stage of the series, doing that makes no sense. Psychic type moves are like a magic type in of themselves. Too many alread existing types resemble Illusions and/or Magic to cause the level of immense confusing adding a poorly named type like that would cause. But that's just me...

I never thought about that... Nice catch. I could believe the possibility of that.

I agree about the name and that it is a Steel-Type, but how do you tell from the graph? I can't find the correlation.

I think it's probably Trump Card. Eevee learns it.

Yup. I saw an Eevee use it in the anime a couple days ago in the subbed eps of the Unova League. They look extremely similar so I believe it's Trump Card.

I hope that it is a flying type and the other Eevee is fighting or rock. ( I say other eevee because eevee-lutions have come in twos in past Gens except 1, of course)

NO WAY i think i figuered it out ninfia in japanese can relate to nymph flying creatures Sylveon can mean sylph and that means flying spirit and if you look at the chart is shows what each of them is weak to as for electric jolteon is on the top and the bottom would be sylveon flying type and arent electric types weak to flying????

For starters, Flying is weak to Electric. Second, its ame is Sylveon. It's too close to silver. If it were Sylpheon, or Sylfeon, then maybe, but since it's so much closer to Silv, I don't quite think it adds up well enough. My only issue is it doesn't look Steel. I'm thinking this may be Normal/Steel, IF it's at all Steel. I'm still going with Normal/Ghost if not pure Ghost for now.

I just came back from Bulbapedia checking out Umbreon's name origins and then I clicked on Sylveon. That thing looks so pale and ghostly... I'm more convinced than ever it's a Ghost type. That's the only type is looks like. The dead eyes, pale body, the so called "scarves" looks like ghostly arms or something waving at you spookily. I dunno where the name origin is but I'm really banking on Ghost, lol

Oh my god if this is a Ghost type I will be sooo happy.
I do think it's either Ghost or Normal though.
But I will definetely be having one of these.
      It's so adorable :3

I really don't think it is steel. Even if the name sounds a bit like Sliver it's a completely different metal, a different element. Umbreon's name comes from Umbra which is the darkest part of an eclipse not exactly obvious. My bet is still normal type.

It cant be normal type thats just kind of dumb considering the fact that eevee is already a normal type and if Sylveon was a normal type i would be very dissapointed
